What is PPN 006 and is my company affected?
PPN 006 (formerly PPN 06/21, renamed in 2025) is the UK Government Procurement Policy Note that requires suppliers bidding for central government contracts above £5M per year to publish a Carbon Reduction Plan. NHS Evergreen, Crown Commercial Service, MOD JOSCAR and most local authority frameworks have adopted the same requirement. If you are bidding on any UK public-sector contract, you almost certainly need a compliant CRP.
Do I need Scope 3 too, or is Scope 1 and 2 enough?
PPN 006 requires Scope 1, 2 and "material" Scope 3 categories. NHS Evergreen Level 1 accepts Scope 1 and 2 plus a Scope 3 narrative. Levels 2 and 3 require a full Scope 3 inventory. Most large customers cascading down to suppliers now ask for full Scope 3. If you are unsure, our Scope 3 Inventory product covers all 15 GHG Protocol categories and is forward-compatible with NHS Evergreen Levels 2 and 3 plus UK SRS S2.
What is UK SRS and when does it apply?
UK SRS (UK Sustainability Reporting Standards) is the UK Government’s adoption of the IFRS S1 and S2 disclosure standards published by the ISSB. Government consultation is ongoing. The first wave of mandatory disclosure is expected to apply to large UK entities (turnover above £500M) for accounting periods starting 2027 onward. Our UK SRS Readiness Assessment maps your current disclosures against S1 and S2 so you can close gaps now while it is voluntary, before it becomes mandatory and audit-bound.
How fast can you deliver?
Two to four weeks for the Carbon Reduction Plan, depending on the size and complexity of your organisation. Digital Sustainability Audit, ESG Summary Report and UK SRS Readiness ship in parallel. The Scope 3 Inventory adds one to two weeks because of supplier engagement. Rush turnaround (one week) is available on request for an additional 30 percent.
What data do you need from us?
Twelve months of utility bills (electricity, gas), fleet fuel records, business travel data and key spend categories. For Scope 3 we add procurement spend by category, waste contractor data and a commuting survey. We provide a structured data-submission form on the platform and our team will help fill any gaps. If you do not have full data we use sector-specific benchmarks aligned to Defra 2025 Greenhouse Gas Conversion Factors.
Is this defensible if a buyer audits us?
Yes. Every plan is built to ISO 14064-1 organisational GHG accounting standard, uses Defra 2025 conversion factors, and follows the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard. The methodology document is included so any auditor can reconstruct the calculations. We also provide an auditor portal where any reviewer (your customer, a procurement officer, or an independent assurance body) can view the underlying data without you sharing files manually.
Will I need to update it next year?
Yes. PPN 006 and most frameworks require annual updates with current emissions data and reduction progress. Both Bundles include the first annual update free. Subsequent updates are £495 per CRP per year, £795 for the standard Bundle, or £995 for the Bundle PRO (which includes Scope 3 and UK SRS refresh).
Why is this cheaper than Carbon Trust or Big 4 firms?
Carbon Trust and the Big 4 (Deloitte, PwC, KPMG, EY) charge £15,000 to £50,000+ for the same documents because they bill consultant time at corporate rates. We use a software-led process. The dashboard, audit checklist, data submission flow and certificate generation are automated, so our consultants spend their time on the parts that need human judgement (sector benchmarking, reduction-target setting, narrative writing). You get the same defensible deliverable for a fraction of the price.
Do I need to offset emissions to use this?
No. The Carbon Reduction Plan, Digital Sustainability Audit, ESG Summary Report, Scope 3 Inventory and UK SRS Readiness are standalone documents. Offsetting is optional and offered separately through our Business Carbon Offsetting plans. PPN 006 explicitly does not require offsetting, only measurement, target-setting and reduction projects.
