Project Detail

Our Carbon Offset Projects

Every carbon credit purchased through Offset Britain funds verified emission reduction projects around the world. We source credits exclusively from internationally recognised standards to ensure real, measurable, and permanent climate impact.

Verification Standards

All projects we support are certified under one or more of the following internationally recognised standards:

Gold Standard

Founded by WWF, the Gold Standard is considered the highest quality certification for carbon credits. Projects must demonstrate measurable emission reductions and deliver sustainable development co-benefits to local communities.

Verra VCS (Verified Carbon Standard)

The world's most widely used voluntary carbon credit standard. VCS projects undergo rigorous third-party verification and are registered on the Verra public registry for full transparency.

UK Woodland Carbon Code

The UK Government-backed standard for woodland creation projects in Britain. Ensures that trees planted are additional, properly managed, and their carbon sequestration is independently verified.

UN Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)

Established under the Kyoto Protocol, CDM projects in developing countries generate Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) verified by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Project Categories

Reforestation & Afforestation

Tree planting and forest restoration projects that sequester carbon from the atmosphere while restoring biodiversity, preventing soil erosion, and supporting local communities. Our portfolio includes projects across the UK, East Africa, and Southeast Asia.

Standards: Gold Standard, Verra VCS, UK Woodland Carbon Code

Renewable Energy

Wind, solar, and hydroelectric projects that displace fossil fuel electricity generation. These projects reduce grid emissions while creating local employment and improving energy access in developing regions.

Standards: Gold Standard, Verra VCS, UN CDM

Clean Cookstoves

Distribution of efficient cookstoves to communities in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. These stoves reduce biomass fuel consumption by up to 60%, cutting carbon emissions while improving indoor air quality and reducing deforestation pressure.

Standards: Gold Standard

Peatland Restoration

Restoration of degraded peatlands in the UK and globally. Healthy peatlands are the world's largest terrestrial carbon store - holding twice as much carbon as all the world's forests combined. Restoration prevents carbon release and restores natural habitats.

Standards: Verra VCS, UK Peatland Code

Ocean & Blue Carbon

Protection and restoration of coastal ecosystems including mangroves, seagrass meadows, and salt marshes. These blue carbon habitats sequester carbon at rates up to 10 times higher per hectare than terrestrial forests.

Standards: Verra VCS

Our Commitment to Quality

  • Additionality - Every project would not have happened without carbon finance. The emission reductions are additional to what would have occurred anyway.
  • Permanence - Projects are designed and monitored to ensure long-term carbon storage. Buffer pools and insurance mechanisms protect against reversals.
  • Transparency - All credits are publicly registered on the relevant standard's registry. We provide serial numbers and retirement certificates for every offset.
  • No Double Counting - Credits are retired upon purchase to ensure they cannot be claimed by any other party.
  • Co-benefits - We prioritise projects that deliver additional social and environmental benefits aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Track Your Impact

Every Offset Britain certificate includes a unique reference number that can be verified on our certificate verification page. This links directly to the project registry, providing full transparency on exactly where your offset was applied.
